This one-day hybrid course will provide a theoretical overview of global aphasia and a summary of the existing evidence base. It will use case studies and client examples to equip clinicians with practical ideas for assessing and treating both the communication and cognitive impairments in this challenging population. The course is suitable for Speech and Language Therapy students as well as new and more experienced Speech and Language Therapists. Dr Sharon Adjei-Nicol qualified as a speech and language therapist in 2004. Since this time, she has worked in a range of NHS and independent settings with adults with acquired communication, swallowing and voice disorders. Sharon set up her own independent practice -Acquire Speech & Language Therapy Ltd in 2019 and is Director and Clinical Lead. Currently Sharon’s clinical work primarily involves medico-legal work and expert witness assessments with adults with complex neurological conditions. Alongside independent practice Sharon is a part-time Senior Lecturer in Speech and Language Therapy at Canterbury Christ Church University and Honorary Lecturer in Speech & Language Therapy at the University of Ghana. 

Since the start of her career Sharon has had a keen interest in global aphasia and pursued research in this field for her PhD. She was awarded her PhD in 2020 from University College London (UCL) and continues to conduct research in this area.  Sharon has presented her work on global aphasia at the UK Stroke Forum and the British Aphasiology Society’s International Scientific Conference on multiple occasions and is author of the book “Working with Global Aphasia: Theory & Practice”.
