October 2024 Cancer Research Professionals Course

The Cancer Clinical Trials Unit (CCTU) at UCLH has developed and piloted an exciting course aimed at staff new to clinical research that won the 'Excellence in Cancer Research Nursing' category at the Royal College of Nursing 2022 awards.

The Cancer Research Professionals (CRP) course is a four-day course for staff that have worked in clinical research for less than 12 months with the aim of giving them a thorough grounding and education in clinical research. The course is also suitable for our medical industry partners who are eager to deepen their knowledge of cancer clinical research and learn alongside site staff. Although it is delivered virtually it has been developed to consider all the practicalities of delivering research, covering the nuts and bolts of how it's done in an engaging and interactive way. 

Course Structure

Day 1 starts with a session on the history of clinical trials and types of trials. The remainder of the day is specifically focused on cancer treatments, with an interesting patient perspective talk reminding us all that patients are at the heart of the work we do.

Day 2 and day 3 are aimed at staff relatively new to research but may be useful for clinical staff that have less experience or understanding of the administrative and data side of clinical research.

The last day of the course (day 4) is more clinically focused with sessions on communicating and supporting patients, dignity and self-care and resilience. This day therefore is also suitable for experienced research staff who may be considering a move into a clinical role as well as existing clinical staff for valuable CPD.

We recommend that all participants attend sessions on Days 1, 2, and 3 to gain a comprehensive understanding of cancer treatments and clinical trial delivery. If you would like to enhance your skills in the clinical setting of cancer clinical trials, we also recommend participating in Day 4.

Cost

Fees are based on the attendee’s organisation with details as follows:

• Free for attendees from the following units within UCLH:
  - Cancer Clinical Trials Unit (CCTU)
  - Macmillan Cancer Centre
  - Cancer wards
  
  The free tickets are registered via a separate online form. Please email uclh.crpcourse@nhs.net for the link to the form. 

• £40 per day per attendee who is from other units of UCLH and NHS Trusts.

• £150 per day per attendee who is from medical corporates.

Refund Policy:

No refunds will be issued if participants choose to withdraw from the course after purchasing tickets.

Points to Note:

• Please ensure you are accessing this event via a laptop or PC with a microphone rather than a mobile device. You may not have access to the full functionality of Zoom which you’ll need to take part in the session if you use mobile applications. 
• Cameras are encouraged. You will be required to attend small break out rooms to contribute to group discussion. 
• You must attend the full day in order to get your certificate.
